Shippensburg residents and visitors alike celebrated their Valentine’s Day on the snow-painted streets of downtown Shippensburg at the second annual Winterfest on Saturday.

The event was hosted by Downtown Organizations Investing Together (D.O.I.T.) and Shippensburg University Student Services Inc. (SUSSI) and ran along King Street. Activities were on both sides of the street for everyone to enjoy.

The primary attraction at Winterfest was the intricately designed ice sculptures made by the nationally recognized and locally born artist Danny Kissel. The 20 sculptures throughout town featured numerous local sponsors, including The Lollipop Shop, University Grille, The Cumberland Shop, Jane’s Art of Pie and Shippensburg University Bookstore.

Some of the activities held included corn hole sponsored by CSA Holdings, Shippensburg Community Fair Royalty, miniature golf sponsored by Member’s 1st FCU and a live carve event sponsored by Parx Casino.

While attendees walked downtown and took in the sights, they could stop to grab a bite to eat at the multiple food trucks. The food trucks featured at this year’s Winterfest were Auntie Ann’s, AllyKat’s Farm to Table Mobile Café, CK Chicken and Country Boy BBQ. Various coffee trucks and venders were also present to ensure Winterfest had a little bit of everything for everyone.

In an effort to spread the love, some organizations along King Street decorated for Valentine’s Day and offered some holiday-themed treats. The Lollipop Shop served fresh, hand-dipped chocolate-covered strawberries, Shippensburg Area Chamber of Commerce offered free coffee, cannoli and hot chocolate and Cumberland Valley Hose Company No. 2 had free plastic fire hats for children who stopped by.

Shippensburg’s second-ever Winterfest served as the perfect outing for couples, families, friends and anyone looking for a lovely place to spend their Valentine’s Day.
