Shippensburg University’s Women’s Soccer Team had an electric start to their 2025 season with two exciting home matches against Goldey-Beacom and West Chester.
The team’s season record moves to 1-0.
SU faced Goldey Beacom on Thursday for their home opener. The team’s 6-2 victory was the most goals the team has scored in six years.
Ashley Hughes and Jordan Lytwyn each earned a pair of goals, while Cailin Spelman and sophomore Lannah Werynski contributed one goal each.
Redshirt junior goalkeeper Kristin Brown got the win for the Raiders and made two saves in 69 minutes of play. Sophomore goalkeeper Hannah Cline worked the last 21 minutes of the match.
“It gives a lot of confidence knowing that we are finally able to put some shots on goal and we are able to shoot from outside the box,” said Lytwyn.
She additionally noted that taking chances and risks is only going to push the team to perform even better.
On Sept. 6, Shippensburg earned a draw against West Chester in a hard-fought battle.
The Rams dominated the game with 17 shots to the Raiders’ nine shots. Three of SU’s shots that were on target from Werynski, senior Maegan Quinn and senior Kaitlyn DiCandilo.
Brown recorded five total saves.
In 40 lifetime matchups, the two programs have never ended a match in a draw.
The Raiders return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 10, for an away match against Shepherd University. The event will begin at 12:00 p.m.
