Shippensburg University’s Student Government Association (SGA) approved changes to its Budget and Finance Committee (B&F) standing rules at its meeting last week.

The amendments to the rules include the addition of a special funding request process that will allow groups to request additional funds to supplement their budget. The committee allocated $120,000 to the fund after SU President Charles Patterson approved a student activity fee increase at the end of the budget process last year.

These funds can be requested by groups by submitting a form received at the student group and budget trainings held this month. Clubs are limited to requesting $1,000 while other student groups can request up to $2,000.

The amended standing rules were approved with two no-votes from Athletics Senator Eve Nealon and Business College Senator Caleb Owens. Arts & Sciences College Senator Aiden Crowder abstained.

SGA President Lillian Sellers gave president’s remarks, outlining the “very productive” start of the academic year. She also brought attention to the SGA senator election speeches, which were held in McFeely’s Coffeehouse after the meeting.

Vice President of Student Groups Ella Zinn reported that three new student groups will be voted on Friday, Sept. 20 at the Student Groups committee meeting.

International Students Senator Davi Alfonso de Goes promoted “All Around the World,” an event designed to encourage cultural appreciation through food, music and entertainment. A part of Shippensburg University’s Diversity Week, “All Around the World” will be held in the CUB MPR on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 5 p.m.

MSA Senators Cassidy Vangas and Marlon Aristy highlighted a few upcoming Diversity Week events, including Latino Explosion and a speech given by Diversity Week keynote speaker Javier Avila. Avila’s speech would be given in the CUB MPR on Monday, Sept. 23.

According to the Activities Programming Board report, several successful, well-populated campus activities were recently held. APB’s recent carnival night had 80 attendees, and bingo night had just under 200. APB also highlighted its family cornhole night at the ShipRec on Friday, Sept. 20.

The next SGA meeting will be held on Thursday, Oct. 3, at 4 p.m. in CUB 119.
