Shippensburg University women’s basketball team dropped two losses this past week to the West Chester Golden Rams last Wednesday and the Lock Haven Eagles last Sunday.

The results moved the Raiders to a 5-22 record overall, with a 4-17 record in PSAC play. Wednesday evening’s game showed a gutsy effort from the Raiders only falling to the Rams by five points. The Raiders shot a season-high 49%from the field. Graduate Treasure George led the scoring with 16 points and junior Taja Colbert went 5-of-7 shooting to earn 13 points.

The Raiders had an impressive first half and fought defensively to keep a close scoring deficit with the Rams. Freshman Mia Johnson collected a four-point play before the second quarter buzzer with a long three-pointer and a foul to help the Raiders gain a one-point lead.

The lead was not held long before West Chester had a 10-0 run in the third quarter to take a 37-32 lead. The Raiders stuck close to the Rams throughout the third and fourth quarters. SU out-rebounded WCU 35-20, and freshman Bella Chimenti recorded a new career high of 11 rebounds.

The Raiders were not able to regain their lead over West Chester and lost 64-59.

The Raiders faced another tough Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup on Sunday at Thomas Fieldhouse.

The game was quickly set into motion by Lock Haven freshman Madeline Evans who scored a jumper nine seconds after the tipoff. Lock Haven proceeded to dominant the scoring against the Raiders until Chimenti cut the Eagles lead by scoring six points in the last two minutes of the first quarter.

The Raiders kept a relatively close deficit to the Eagles until the third quarter. Lock Haven capitalized on their opportunities and led the Raiders by 16 points.

Even with Shippensburg’s late efforts in the last two minutes of the fourth quarter by sophomore Makayla Foddrell, junior Abbie Miller and graduate Madi White, the Raiders fell to Lock Haven 64-51. Miller matched her season-high of 18 points to lead the Raiders in scoring against the Eagles.

The Shippensburg women’s basketball team’s last regular season game is home against Shepherd on Wednesday, Feb. 28. The game will begin at 6 p.m.
