Swimming sets multiple school records at PSACs

Shippensburg University’s swim team started off on Day 1 of PSAC (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) at Keystone Aquatic Center and had a great first day.

For the girls, senior Alyssa Tomb reached a new personal record in the 200 individual medley (IM) with a 2:09.51 and got a 2:08.77 during preliminaries. Freshman Charlee Shaw also swam the 200 IM with a 2:16.62. In the 1,000-yard freestyle, senior Allie Keeling swam a 10:49.07 and freshman Michelle Kubiak swam a 10:54.02. 

For the boys, freshman Mason Koeth swam the 200-yard freestyle and broke the school's 33-year-old standing record, formerly held by Rich Adams since 1991. Sophomore Nathan Wauls achieved a new personal record, swimming a 2:02.30. Freshman Connor Ludwig swam a 21.54 50 freestyle. 

Discussing her new personal records, Tomb said she was super pumped about it, especially because it was her last time ever swimming. 

The second day of PSAC for the girls went well. Senior Marissa Bittner swam the 400 IM with a 4:50.62. Junior Gracie Wetzel also competed in the 400 IM and swam a 4:44.59 while setting a new personal record. Freshman Jazz Barry swam a 56.89 in her 100 butterfly. 

For the boys, the day began with sophomore Kevin Noldy achieving a personal record of 54.23 in the 100 butterfly. Senior Michael Salvatori swam a 4:05.52 400 IM. Junior David Johnson and Van Orden finished the 400 IM relay with a 3:29.95. 

On the third day, Shippensburg was still in sixth place. Senior Marissa Bittner broke the school record for the 100-yard backstroke. Makennah Fickett swam the 100-yard backstroke as well with a 1:01.97. Senior Lexington Wagner achieved a personal record of 1:09.67.

For the boys, graduate JC Greenwood swam the 500-yard freestyle in 4:44.39, placing 16th overall. Junior Nathan VanNatter swam a 58.56 in the 100-yard backstroke. Shippensburg stayed in sixth place with 136 points before finals, starting at 5 p.m. Saturday. 

After Koeth broke the school record, he said that it was a cool experience and glad that it happened. Discussing his first year on the team, he mentioned that everything has been great, —great team, great coach, and he has noticed that Shippensburg is team-oriented
