Shippensburg University’s softball team has had a tough start to the 2024 season following a pair of losses in North Carolina over the weekend but bounced back, claiming its next two on Sunday, Feb. 18.

In Saturday's first game, Shippensburg lost to Catawba 4-3. On a positive note, senior outfielder Taylor Myers had a solid day on offense with three hits and a run scored. Sophomore Lindsay Haser, senior Morgan Lindsay and sophomore Caitlyn Martell each had RBIs of their own, but it was not enough to top Catawba.

In Saturday’s second game, Shippensburg fell again as it struggled offensively and defensively against Lees-McRae, dropping the game 11-1 in six innings. The Raiders struggled to score runs following the one-two pitching punch of Lees-Mcrae’s Leah Dibello and Lonna Addison.

The Raiders got a win Sunday with a gutsy, eight-inning victory in a rematch against Catawba, winning 8-4. Lindsay was the hero as she gave the Raiders the lead in the top of the eighth inning with a clutch three-run home run. Shippensburg’s 5.2 innings of solid relief pitching helped seal the victory as well, with junior Katelyn Minney getting the win.

Shippensburg followed up with another victory and sought redemption following a blowout loss on Sunday to Lees-McRae. The Raiders had an offensive explosion, partly thanks to another monster game from Morgan, who went off with five RBIs. The team closed their weekend with a strong finish. Junior starting pitcher Alicia Ball had a solid seven-inning outing, only giving up two earned runs in Shippensburg’s dominant 10-3 victory.
