The Shippensburg Kids Event Committee hosted the 36th Annual Shippensburg Halloween Parade Saturday night.

The parade began at 7 p.m. and ran along East King Street. It drew large crowds of children, parents and other Shippensburg residents despite the cold night.

The front of the parade included campus and community groups and individuals, such as Shippensburg Mayor Kathy Coy, Shippensburg Community Fair royalty, ROTC Color Guard, the Shippensburg Middle School Band and others. Most of those participating in the parade were dressed in Halloween costumes.

The marching bands in attendance played various Halloween songs.

Shippensburg University President Charles E. Patterson and First Lady Colleen Patterson were also present, handing out candy to children. Big Red and Shippo the Hippo made an appearance as well.

Several performance groups, including The Spinning Illusions and Superstar Twirlers, entranced the crowd as they marched down the street while performing twirling tricks.

The parade ran until approximately 8:30 p.m.
