Shippensburg University’s annual Wellness Fair was held Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the CUB MPR. The fair was made up of various organizations that came to advertise the services they provide to the campus community. Some exhibitors were on-campus organizations that students can join like the Health and Wellness Center. Other exhibitors included UPMC, WellSpan, Highmark and Planet Fitness, as well as many others.

As suggested by the name, the event’s focus was on organizations that provide mental and physical healthcare to the local community and Shippensburg campus. The Wellness Fair offered students a chance to meet with these exhibitors to learn more about the healthcare and human services that are available to them at Shippensburg.

Event organizers also encouraged visiting various booths around the MPR by holding a bingo game. In order to have a chance at winning, students had to visit different stations around the room that corresponded to different fields of health and wellness. The fields included learning support, physical therapy, support for military veterans and more. The prizes for finished cards included health-related objects like water bottles and medicine kits.

Some booths provided services as well as information. At one UPMC booth, students could get a free cholesterol blood test. Other services like massages and health screenings were also offered by different healthcare exhibitors. Therapy dogs were even present for visitors to enjoy.

Many booths provided information on common health and wellness issues that students face, such as therapy, drug rehabilitation and sexual assault awareness. Altogether, the Wellness Fair was a great way for Shippensburg students to learn about health programs and resources that are available to them on or off campus.

Free refreshments were also provided, as well as a plethora of items like pens, lip balm, stress balls and water bottles, and one stand had Bluetooth speakers.

The Wellness Fair will return next year for anyone who may have missed the opportunity and is interested in attending. It was a very informative event and is a great way for students to reach out to the health and wellness resources available to them.
