The Shippensburg University Student Government Association (SGA) swore in eight new senators during its Feb. 2 public meeting, held in the Ceddia Union Building (CUB).

The senators include Philicia McArthur, MSA Senator; AJ Elhossiani, MSA Senator; Keegan Huston, Class of 2024 Senator; Joyce Suah, Class of 2025 Senator; Justin Brajkovich, Class of 2026 Senator; Morgan Friel, Class of 2026 Senator; Malu Takahashi, Commuter Student Senator; and Monika Lewis, Transfer Student Senator.

All senators were sworn in by Rashann Henry, vice president of internal affairs.

Additionally, SGA member Ethan Rosenberry was sworn in as the new vice president of finance, following the resignation of the previous officeholder in November. Rosenberry was also sworn in by Henry.

During the public meeting, SGA members brought up topics of discussion concerning Shippensburg University’s campus.

Henry shared concerns SU students have regarding dining services offered on campus. Particularly, Henry addressed that students had discussed with him that the Burger and Fries dining service in the CUB had been closing early lately.

College of Arts & Sciences Senator Dameeyah Floyd, who sits on the dining committee, also spoke about Burger and Fries closing early.

“We do not have enough staff to staff the CUB, Big Red’s Shack and Reisner Dining Hall at the same time,” Floyd said. Floyd said the workers at these locations are working their hardest amid the staff shortage.

Additionally, concerns were raised by members of SGA as well as members of the audience regarding The Slate. The concern revolved around a photo posted on The Slate’s Instagram page that some thought portrayed SGA President Kennedy Holt negatively. A representative for The Slate discussed these concerns with those in attendance at the meeting.
