Shippensburg University’s reigning Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) and Division II National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) national champion field hockey team will return to the field this week seeking to go back-to-back.

The Raiders will return 15 players from their championship winning 2021 roster including All-PSAC Second Team goalkeeper Lindsay Tripodo and All-PSAC Third Team forward Valu Paul.

Five new faces will be joining the team this season as well, as Shippensburg added fived freshmen to their roster but no transfers.

SU will of course be losing forward Jazmin Petrantonio, who racked up an extraneous amount of awards in her playing career including: 2022 Honda Division II Athlete of the Year, two-time NFHCA National Player of the Year, four-time NFHCA All-America First Team, three-time NCAA All-Tournament Team and four-time All-PSAC First Team.

Despite the loss of Petrantonio, the defending champions were voted first in the annual PSAC Preseason Coaches’ Poll for the upcoming season.

The Raiders received four of the 10 first-place votes and sit a spot above West Chester University and two spots above East Stroudsburg University.

Shippensburg will open its season on Saturday, Sept. 3 when it hosts Saint Anselm at Robb Sports Complex.
