The Shippensburg University football team beat Millersville University 38-7 on a rainy Saturday at Seth Grove Stadium in front of a packed homecoming weekend crowd.

SU (6-2, 3-2 PSAC) set a single game rushing defense record by limiting the Marauders to minus-61 rushing yards. Eight Raider sacks resulted in 58 lost yards, and Millersville’s eight carries resulted in a total of minus-3 yards.

The Shippensburg defense was smothering as Millersville went 3-and-out on six consecutive drives after its opening possession and did not convert a third down until the fourth quarter.

Twelve different Raiders contributed to the team’s 12 tackles for loss (TFLs) and ten different Raiders contributed to a sack. Senior linebacker, Laron Woody, tied for the team high with six tackles and led with 2.5 TFLs, including 1.5 sacks.

Redshirt-sophomore Tyler Simon also had six tackles with 1.5 TFLs. Redshirt-freshman Riley Good had 10-yard sack to force a fumble and fellow freshman Johan Alcantara also had a sack-fumble, his being recovered by redshirt-freshman Ray Jones.

Offensively, SU controlled the ball for 40:34, its highest time of possession in a game since 2004.

Redshirt-sophomore Bill Williams carried 21 times for 76 yards and fellow redshirt-sophomore Khalid Dorsey ran 13 times for 71 yards and a score.

Quarterback Brycen Mussina completed 14 passes for 187 yards and two touchdowns through the air.

Mussina also showed off his ability to use his legs as he scrambled for 29 yards and two first half touchdowns. He also picked up some key first downs using his feet.

Graduate Evan Morill, playing against his former team, caught a team-high four receptions for 46 yards. Redshirt-senior Kyle Evans had two catches for 53 yards including a long 44-yard touchdown in the second quarter.

Freshman Ian Sheehan had two catches for 44 yards and a touchdown and redshirt-junior tight end David Balint III reeled in three passes for 27 yards.

The Raiders have now defeated Millersville 17 consecutive times and in the last six meetings, the Marauders have totaled just 31 rushing yards and have taken 35 sacks.

SU will head to East Stroudsburg this Saturday for their final road game of the season against the Warriors. Kickoff will be at 1:05 p.m.
