ShipTalks: How can you do well with online courses?

The semester is counting down, but students still have to complete work for their classes.

Students may find themselves overwhelmed with the number of assignments they have to complete in the coming weeks. Some professors have added more assignments than originally planned in the move online.

This is manageable when it is a class or two, but when professors in all five classes pour on assignments it can become hard to balance everything. Try not to stress over the workload and  focus on one assignment at a time.

It can be challenging to focus on academics during this pandemic. If you are struggling with your class work, here are some tips to help you progress in your work.

Reach out to your professors if you are having a hard time with an online class. Professors recognize students may struggle and are there for support. They made the same jump to online instruction.

Alongside talking to your professors, contact one or two classmates who are in the same boat as you. Online learning is not for everyone. If you are struggling, someone else likely is as well.

Use this time online to find resources that will aid in your success. The tutoring center holds virtual appointments and will make accommodations as needed, according to ship.edu.

While it may not be possible for everybody, try to find a quiet place to study and attend classes if you are able to. Distractions such as others talking or noise in the background can be disruptive to the learning process.

This is an unusual time but you will get through it. Take one step at a time and try your best.
