Shippensburg University will join the local community in an event Thursday to promote unity.

According to a SU press release, the event “will serve as a time for the campus and greater community to come together in a show of togetherness as one community.”

SU Media Relations Manager Megan Silverstrim said the event will include a brief program with remarks by SU President Laurie Carter, Student Government Association President Aven Bittinger, United Campus Ministry Rev. Jane Bye, SU Professor of Criminal Justice Stephanie Jirard, Shippensburg Township Manager Steve Oldt and Shippensburg Borough Mayor Kathy Coy.

“This event was born out of conversations last week among students and campus leaders,” Silverstrim said.

The gathering will be held on Thursday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. at Shippensburg Station which is located on the Cumberland Valley Rail Trail at 51 E. Fort St.

Refreshments will be served following the program.
