State police reports 2/20/18 - 2/26/18

Frank Varnauskas, 33, of Newville, was driving northbound behind a vehicle in Southampton Township on Thursday around 5:40 p.m. when he began to pass the vehicle on a double yellow line.

Both of the vehicles began to go over a hill on Newville Road when Linda Brechbill, 69, of Chambersburg, was approaching southbound in the opposite lane. Varnauskas struck Brechbill in Brechbill’s lane in a head-on crash. Both vehicles spun and Varnauskas came to a stop in the southbound lane while Brechbill spun into a field and struck a tree.

Both drivers sustained serious injuries and were assisted by EMS crews, fire police and the fire department. Both vehicles sustained disabling damage.


Crash reported on South Fayette Street

A crash occurred on Wednesday around 6:10 p.m. at the intersection of South Fayette Street and Olde Scotland Road in Shippensburg Township.

The driver of a 2013 Mercedes-Benz C300 stopped behind a driver of a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu at a red light facing South Fayette Street. A tractor trailer turned in front of the Malibu, and the driver backed up to allow the truck more room. The vehicle backed into the Mercedes-Benz and sustained rear-end damage, while the Mercedes-Benz sustained minor front-end damage. 

No injuries were reported and both vehicles were driven from the scene.


Burglary reported on Richard Avenue

Two 21-year-old men, whose names have not been released, reported a burglary at their home on Richard Avenue on Jan. 11.

State police responded to the location.


DUI reported at Shippensburg traffic stop

An unnamed suspect was stopped in the 100 block of North Queen Street on Thursday around 12:30 p.m.

The suspect was taken into custody for suspected driving under the influence.


Tire slashing reported in Southampton Township

Craig Patterson Hamilton, 44, of Shippensburg, reported three of the tires on his 1997 Jeep Wrangler were slashed. His vehicle was parked in front of his residence.

The damages are valued at approximately $780. Police are seeking information.


Broken window reported in Southampton Township

New Enterprises Stone & Lime Co. Inc. located in the 100 block of Sandbank Road in Southampton Township reported a broken window. The incident occurred between Nov. 1, 2017 and Feb. 21, 2018.
