A man was airlifted to an awaiting hospital following a car accident that occurred tonight on North Earl Street in Shippensburg.

Pennsylvania State Police, Shippensburg University Police and the Shippensburg Borough Police Department responded to reports of a collision at Gas USA located at 304 N. Earl St., shortly after 10 p.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered the driver had driven into the corner of the gas station while traveling north toward SU. The crash caused severe damage to the front of the vehicle, and left the driver trapped inside.

Firefighters at the scene were soon able to cut the driver from his vehicle. The man was transported by ambulance to a helicopter that took him to an awaiting hospital.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing and more information will be released by the Pennsylvania State Police Department as it becomes available.
