SU mourns loss of student

A Shippensburg University student died in early December prior to the conclusion of fall semester.

David Jackson Hurt, 19, died in his sleep on Dec. 10. Born in Pittsburgh, Hurt grew up in Middletown, Maryland where he played hockey and lacrosse throughout his childhood. Hurt also played lacrosse during his time as an exchange student in Germany.

Known as “Jack” to his friends, Hurt was a mathematics major at SU and played on the university’s hockey team.

Hurt is survived by his father, David Hurt, his mother Jennifer Diminio, her husband Michael Diminio and his two sisters, Teagan and Charlotte Hurt. In addition to his immediate family, Hurt is survived by grandparents and various aunts, uncles and cousins.

Hurt’s hockey team in Fredericksburg, Maryland will be holding a memorial service this evening at Skate Frederick. A January memorial is being planned with additional details to come.
