A Shippensburg University junior died last week following a brief battle with leukemia.

Emily R. Decker, 20, of Chambersburg, died at the Hershey Medical Center on Nov. 8.

Decker graduated from the Chambersburg Area Career Magnet School in 2014 and attended SU as a human communications studies major and communication/journalism minor. She was a member of the National Honor Society and an officer in her school alumni association. Decker also worked part-time at Chambersburg’s Blue Mountain Sports Apparel.

Born on March 30, 1996, Decker is survived by her parents, David Leon and Rose Mary Decker, as well as a sister, niece, nephew and multiple aunts, uncles and cousins.

SU’s HCS department will induct Decker into their honor society in their spring induction, and plan to invite Decker’s parents to the ceremony. In Decker’s classes, cards are being made to give to Decker’s parents. There are more plans for honoring Decker in the future, but nothing has been decided yet.
