Construction has been a familiar sight on campus, although the visible presence of construction vehicles has subsided since the end of the 2014-2015 academic year.

Students and staff at Shippensburg University are used to construction on campus because of the major projects that have occurred over the last few semesters. Most of the projects are over but there are still ongoing operations that are going to occur in the upcoming year.

There are a lot of smaller project coming up this summer, said Terry Starr, associate director for planning, design and construction at SU.

Smaller projects upcoming projects include:

  • Upgrade the elevators in Mowrey and McLean Halls
  • Recoat the Heiges Field House dome
  • Repave Adams Drive
  • Install pedestrian lights along the new walkway from Henderson Gymnasium to Memorial Auditorium
  • Replace the flooring in the training rooms in Heiges Field House and Seth Grove Stadium with rubber floor

Remodeling the walls in Mowrey Hall was another major project that occurred behind the scenes over the past summer. It was primarily a deferred maintenance project to fix a number of infrastructure and electrical components of the building, according to Starr.

Completed updates to Mowrey Hall:

  • Replaced hot and cold water piping throughout the building
  • Updated the data system and added wireless capabilities
  • Replaced heating units throughout the building
  • Installed a new fire alarm system
  • Added a gender neutral restroom

Shippensburg University continues to update its campus. Read The Slate to keep up to date with the latest construction projects.
