Shippensburg Township supervisors announced Sept. 24, that construction on Britton Road will begin on Oct. 5 and is expected to last two weeks, ending Oct. 15.

The project is a complete base reconstruction and overlay of the Road by Valley Quarries. According to the township’s news release, the work will run from the Shippensburg Township line, 100 yards down from North Queen Street and approximately one mile to the township line on Britton Road, 300 yards before Smithdale Road in Southampton Township.

Numerous detours are set in place for the duration of the road work in the area.

Traffic will be down to a single lane from North Queen Street on Britton Road to the Burd Run Bridge Traffic and residents should expect delays. For some days, Britton Road will close with separate detours.

300 yards down from Smithdale Road, south bound traffic will be detoured onto Smithdale Road, over to Rt. 533 then Rt. 11. Fogelsonger Road to Burd Run will close 50 yards east of SU’s rear entrance with all traffic detoured to Rt. 696.

Britton Road may also close from North Queen Street to Burd Run Bridge for only local traffic with complete closure at the bridge. All non-local traffic will be detoured on to North Queen Street and Richard Avenue to Prince Street.

For anyone needing more information or have any questions, contact the township office at 717-532-7381.
