A Shippensburg University student died on May 23 while helping the victim of a drunk driving accident on Route 114 in Mechanicsburg.

The student, Adam Patrick Webb, 21, of Mechanicsburg was struck by a tractor-trailer that was traveling east on Route 114 around midnight, according to a Silver Spring Township Police report.

Webb was nearby when a hit-and-run accident caused by a drunk driver occurred. Webb went to help the victim when he was struck and killed by a passing tractor-trailer, police said. The name of the driver of the tractor-trailer has not been released. The driver did stop after the accident, police said, and currently no charges have been filed.

The driver who caused the initial accident, Steven Rich of New Bloomfield, was arrested for DUI, according to police.

Webb was a 2012 graduate of Cumberland Valley High School, where he played football. He was attending SU in pursuit of a degree in criminal justice and was on the dean’s list. Webb hoped to become a state trooper like his father.

Webb is survived by his parents, Matthew and Susan Webb of Mechanicsburg; his siblings, Cassandra Webb, Connor Webb and Ava Webb; his grandmother, Catherine Webb Egerer of Canton, Michigan; and his girlfriend, Amanda Dundorf of Enola.

To celebrate Webb, a ceremony will take place at First Church of God Community Center, 201 E. Green St. in Mechanicsburg, on May 30.

The family invites the public to make a donation to the Pennsylvania Troopers Helping Troopers Foundation in honor of Webb.

The family is also in the process of working with the Pennsylvania State Police to set up a scholarship in memory of Webb.
