The Red Raider wrestling team fell in its final PSAC dual meet to #15 Kutztown 32-7 this past Friday night at Heiges Field House.

Kutztown took the meet in convincing fashion, winning eight of the 10 matches and scoring bonus points in four of them.

The meet opened with a clash at 197 pounds between Shippensburg’s Jalal Paige and Kutztown’s Brandan Clark. Both were ranked in Super Region 1 coming into the match, with Paige at 4 and Clark at 6, respectively. Clark would narrowly escape with a 1-0 decision that put the Golden Bears up 3-0, setting the tone for their night.

Shippensburg won 2 of the next 5 matches thanks to strong efforts from Sophomore Dante Steffenino and Junior Cameron Throckmorton.

Steffenino won the 125-pound bout 6-2 over Kutztown’s Nicholas DeMarco, improving to 7-7 on the year.

Throckmorton continued his impressive season with a dominant 10-2 major at 149 pounds that brought the score to 18-7, and the Red Raiders within striking distance. It was to no avail, though, as Kutztown swept the rest of the meet and racked up a score of 32-7.

Throckmorton improved his record to 17-1 with the win and is now ranked No. 5 in Division II.

With the loss Shippensburg now falls to 6-13 (1-6 PSAC) on the year. The Red Raiders look to bounce back versus LIU Post Monday in their last dual meet of the regular season.
