Hurricane Sandy is still wreaking havoc on Central Pennsylvania. While it has been three weeks since the hurricane made landfall, bringing heavy rain and wind to much of the Mid-Atlantic and New England areas, the effects that it had on gasoline production are now being felt.

Over the weekend, many people and news organizations began to report gas outages.

It is now clear that these outages are only affecting Sheetz, Inc. and not any of the other gas purveyors in the area. Outage reports at Sheetz stores in Central Pennsylvania ranged from Carlisle to Gettysburg.

Monica Jones, spokesperson for Sheetz, Inc., told the York Daily Reporter the shortage is being caused by Hurricane Sandy, which caused many refineries that supplied Sheetz to shut down.

According to Jones, these refineries are just coming back online and are “pulling double duty now.” Therefore, customers can expect gas back at their local Sheetz sooner rather than later.

All of the Sheetz stores affected remain open as usual.
