Knute’s Pub and Grill, located in downtown Shippensburg, will permanently close its doors on Dec. 29.

Knute’s has been a popular spot for students and their families to dine and drink for thirteen years, and will be ending their run later this month. Knute’s announced the closure in a post on their Facebook page.

“This decision did not come lightly and it is with a heavy heart that the owners say good-bye,” the owners said in the post.

They also said there were several reasons for the pub closing, but the main one was that the owners are retiring.

Many responses to the post were written by patrons wishing the owners well in their retirement. Many expressed sadness that Knute’s is closing for good.

The pub was a popular spot for Shippensburg University students to go on weekends, and enjoyed the drink and food specials offered.

Families of students also enjoyed the dining experience offered at Knute’s, with a menu that had something for everyone, including a full selection of appetizers and wings.

Knute’s was recognized for their service and selection by winning several awards over the years. Some of these awards included the Shippensburg Chamber of Commerce’s Large Business of the Year Award in 2011, as well as the Tastiest Wings Award in 2012, which was provided by the Boys & Girls Club of Chambersburg Wing Competition in January 2012. They also received awards for having the best burgers and wings for several years.

Still, there is hope for something new for those that may feel disappointed by Knute’s closing.

“We are pursuing new opportunities to fill the void left by Knute’s closing” the owners said in the post. “Sometime soon in the New Year, we hope to bring Pennsylvania made, craft beer and spirits to Shippensburg.”
