The Shippensburg Red Sea, SU’s student section, is hosting a pep rally on Friday night in support of the Raiders’ critical matchup against Bloomsburg University.
The pep rally, slated to begin at 7 p.m. in the Quad outside of Ezra Lehman Memorial Library, will attempt to reunite the SU fan base and community in preparation for the biggest game to hit the SU campus since the 2009 PSAC Championship in which the Raiders defeated California University (Pa.) 42-35.
Stakes are high for the two juggernauts on Saturday. The winner will take home the PSAC East crown and will advance to the PSAC Championship game in two weeks. An SU loss would push them from PSAC contention, and would put them on the brink of losing an NCAA Division II playoff berth as well.
SU junior and one of the organizers of the pep rally, Jordan Smith, is adamant in getting SU students to come together for the short pep rally.
“We need to get our campus ready for the big game on Saturday,” Smith said. “It should fire up the football team, band, cheerleaders and students so that we are ready for battle on game day.”
The SU football team is in the midst of a 12-game win streak, boasts the No. 1 offense in the nation and ranks second in the nation in points scored.
In an attempt to gather more students, the RED SEA PEP RALLY Facebook page has sprung up. Members of the band are preparing to be at the pep rally while flyers are being sent out to the SU community tomorrow.
