‘It Was Just an Accident’ Review

(11/25/25 9:00pm)

“It Was Just an Accident” is Iranian Director Jafar Panahi putting his lived experiences on the big screen for the world to understand. The movie follows Vahid, who was once imprisoned for crimes against the regime, whether real or perceived. He recognizes the sound of his torturer's prosthetic leg and then decides to abduct and kill him. When Vahid experiences a sliver of doubt regarding his captive’s identity, he enlists former political prisoners to assist him.

(11/18/25 2:00pm)

If you have a service job, then you might be interested in the book “Pick a Color,” by Souvankham Thammavongsa. It is about a woman named Ning who owns a nail salon and has a special relationship with her employees, and they all wear name tags labeled “Susan.” The story lasts through one day of Ning’s working life.

Get Booked: ‘Legend’

(11/18/25 2:00pm)

All it takes for me to fall in love with a book is a good government corruption plot with a violent, evil leader and a female heroine who falls in love. I loved “Legend” by Marie Lu because of this.

Get Booked: ‘The Fates Divide’

(11/12/25 9:30pm)

Normally I get so annoyed when there are multiple books in a series. Not every single book deserves a sequel or let alone a third, so oftentimes it feels forced. In this case, “Carve the Mark” 100% deserved a sequel and I am so glad that Veronica Roth wrote “The Fates Divide.”

‘Predator: Badlands’ Review

(11/12/25 9:30pm)

“Predator: Badlands” is the second “Predator” movie this year, after director Dan Trachtenberg was seemingly handed the keys to the franchise. An alum of Netflix’s Black Mirror series, Trachtenberg has taken the “Predator” franchise in a positive direction with installments like “Prey” (2022) and the animated “Predator: Killer of Killers” (2025).

Get Booked: ‘Carve the Mark’

(11/04/25 2:00pm)

I read this book for two reasons and two reasons only. A cute boy said it was his favorite book and Veronica Roth being the author of one of the greatest dystopian series of all time. It was also a bonus that I already had this book sitting on my bookshelf many years prior, just collecting dust.

‘Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere” comes up just short

(10/28/25 1:00pm)

“Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere” provides 100 minutes of drama, emotion and insight into the Boss’ career. Unfortunately, the final 20 minutes of the film opt for an odd turn that left viewers disappointed.

Get Booked: ‘Doctor Sleep’

(10/28/25 1:00pm)

I think I was halfway through with reading “The Shining” until I realized there was a sequel that came out many years later and a movie to go with it. Even now when I talk to people about “The Shining” and I ask them if they have watched “Doctor Sleep,” they always sound just as confused as I was.

The performance blended storytelling, nostalgia and expert musicianship, as A.J. Croce honored his early inspirations and his father’s legacy while showcasing his own signature bluesy piano style.

SU Choir sings it all at cabaret

(10/14/25 1:00pm)

SU’s Choir sang their hearts out at their cabaret in Old Main Chapel (OMC) on Friday. Students sang a wide variety of genres, featuring everything from Broadway musicals to folk music. The cabaret served as the choir’s one and only fundraiser this year, so attendees had to pay a small fee of $5 to enjoy the exciting night of performances.

Get Booked: ‘The Shining’

(10/14/25 1:00pm)

I am tired of people using the classic lame argument that “the movie is nothing like the book, therefore it sucked.” I used to be one of those people until I started appreciating the film and book apart from each other. It is simply not a valid argument to say that a movie is bad because it deters away from the plot of the book, unless it is a major difference that alters the entire story to where the two seem unidentifiable to one another. There are things that a film can enhance that a book cannot, and vice versa. That’s just how it is. Besides, I believe in the director’s vision.

Helloween ‘Giants and Monsters’ Review

(10/14/25 1:00pm)

With the release of “Giants & Monsters” on Sept. 1, Helloween solidifies its legacy as one of power metal's most enduring and relevant forces. As the band celebrates its 40th anniversary, this album, the second with the "Pumpkins United" lineup, serves as a powerful testament to their continued credibility.
