What the Supreme Court’s ruling of affirmative action means for Shippensburg University

In a 6-3 decision, the Supreme Court of the United States effectively ended affirmative action in college admissions on Thursday, July 29. The ruling has made it illegal for colleges and universities across the nation to use race-conscious considerations when reviewing applicants.

Shippo just got real: President Patterson announces Shippo the Hippo as second Mascot

Shippensburg University President Charles Patterson announced Big Red’s first mate Shippo the Hippo on Thursday, May 4. Students received an email Thursday morning with a letter and accompanying video from Patterson.

The heart of Harlem made its appearance in Shippensburg on Thursday, Feb. 9, in Stewart Hall for the annual “Live at Apollo” event hosted by Multicultural Student Affairs (MSA) and Residence Hall Association (RHA). A celebration of black history and talent, this event featured various student performances in true Apollo fashion.

Every seat in Old Main Chapel was occupied on Wednesday, March 30, as Jill McCorkel, sociology and criminology professor at Villanova University, presented her lecture titled “It’s not Prison Reform if We Leave Women and Girls Behind.” The event began with introductions by Allison Carey, SU sociology department chair, and Theresa Ward, sociology senior and department tutor.

Despite her dark and edgy appearance, Jessica Silverman loves to create with vibrant color.  Silverman, a sophomore fine arts major at Shippensburg University, does a little bit of everything — oil pastels, print making, painting, drawing, collaging, mixed media and even her day-to-day makeup.

Quinn Erney premieres multidimensional, horror fan film

“Life is unpredictable… Life is the riddle,” Communication/Journalism junior Quinn Erney said about his student film “The Quinn Legacy: The Batman Who Laughs Fan Film” that premiered Feb. 5, 2022, in Orndorff Theater.  Based upon the fictional DC Comics villain of the same name, Erney’s multidimensional, horror film aims to teach viewers that life is unpredictable and that its meaning should be questioned.

“Rocky Horror Picture Show:” First theatrical performance in 2 years
