Naugle Hall received a fresh look over the summer with a new color scheme, updated carpets and easy-to-clean furniture in the shared living spaces. This renovation is the first step in an on-going process to update all the residence halls in the next few years.

The town of Shippensburg gathered on King Street on the last Saturday in August for the 42nd annual Corn Festival. Craft vendors, food trucks and performers had a blast with an incredible turnout of over 25,000 people attending from 11am to 3pm. Visitors came to admire the antique car show, watch the corn eating contest and see what the over 270 exhibitors had to offer.

As summer ended and a new semester began, Shippensburg University welcomed the Class of 2027. First-year students settled into their new dorms and embarked on their college experience this previous week during SU Fall Welcome Week. The transition from high school to college can be a lot for any student, but Fall Welcome Week helps soften the blow of this drastic change.

In the four years I have spent living on-campus, I will admit I never got to know the custodians who worked in each of my buildings.

In middle school, I had to take a “life preparation” class in which we had to start thinking of life after school. I thought it was weird as a seventh grader– I did not need to start thinking of college yet.

When I think of the outdoors, I picture an image of lush greenery and clear blue skies, which ironically has not been a reality in Pennsylvania for a while because of our diminished air quality and lack of rain. When I step outside, the grass crunches under my feet, and the sky looks slightly orange from the Canadian wildfires.

Coming into college, there are a lot of unknowns, and you often do not get a solid grasp of not only “how to survive college” but how to truly thrive until you are almost done with your undergraduate degree.

As attitudes about women in the workplace and having more social freedoms began to change more rapidly, women’s fashion did as well. Pants finally became a reality for women in every scenario following the 60s and 70s and were now acceptable for eveningwear and professional dress. The 1980s had seen the most casual take on fashion yet with athletic wear and bold colors taking center stage, and this shift to minimalism continued into the 90s.

After being in South Korea for two months, I have realized just how many things I should have done differently to prepare for my trip. Do not get me wrong, I am having a great time and I have adjusted very well to living abroad, but I have a lot of advice about what I think would have made this easier.

Throughout my time at Shippensburg University, I have prided myself on attending all sorts of campus events and have certainly fully utilized my student activity fee. Shippensburg University truly has a diverse array of student organizations, programs and engaging events that can provide engaging experiences for almost any student. Over my four years, I found myself returning to certain events year after year that have become a staple of my Shippensburg experience; not to mention many other students across campus. I recommend all students attend these six events, shows, performances and trips before graduating:

Pants were just beginning to come into style in the 1930s, going from socially unacceptable and immodest to something modern, stylish women wore. The 30s saw the rise of women’s trousers in the public eye thanks to movie stars like Katherine Hepburn, but they were still not as prevalent or acceptable as they are today. The 1940s saw a major change.

Fungi can provide us with many resources such as medicine, biofuel, food and textiles, but it can also spread deadly diseases and weaken our immune system. Fungi are unique because they take apart their habitat to create something new that can be beneficial or harmful to humans.

The past couple of days have been tumultuous to say the very least: I learned to never underestimate how hateful the internet (and people) can be. I could not shake a constant feeling of anxiety and lost a lot of sleep. Though high school is in the past, I’ve found many college students like to resurrect petty habits. As much as I tried to deflect and laugh it off, the words I read struck my heart and made my hands tremble.
