The Meaning Behind Wedding Rings

So unless you have been living under a very large rock, it is not news that Prince William proposed to his long-time girlfriend, Kate Middleton.

The wedding is approaching, and with all the hype, it was recently announced that Prince William is opting out of wearing a wedding band.

At first, I was a little shocked by this morsel of information. However, after reading a little more, it appears that it is not uncommon for royals to only have a one-wedding-band ceremony.

Prince Andrew and Prince Edward both wear signet rings (rings with intials carved into them) in place of a wedding band, and William’s father Prince Charles did not wear a wedding band when he was married to Princess Diana.

It is also safe to note that the marriage did not last.

Personally, I think married people should wear wedding bands. I think it is a sign of respect to your partner, and it lets other people know that you are off the market without having to say anything.

Most women love an excuse to wear more bling, so I do not really think this is as much of an issue with men as it is women.

Some men might use the excuse, “I don’t like to wear jewelry.” Well I bet your wife does tons of things for you that she does not want to do.

Others might say that wearing a ring is uncomfortable. I guarantee it is not as uncomfortable as giving child birth. I guess my main issue with a person not wearing a wedding band is that I think it is a red flag that the person is cheating or looking to cheat.

Cheating seems like the most logical explanation for not wearing a wedding band. However, at the same time, if a person wants to cheat, a little gold ring is not going to stop the slime ball.

I do not think Prince William is foregoing wearing a ring so that he can cheat on Kate.

The couple seems very happy together, and most people who cheat do not give their partner an 18-carat blue sapphire ring.

It also would be pretty hard for him to cheat when he has the media following his every move. But I just think it would just be a nice gesture for Middleton.

However, if two people really love and care about each other, it should not matter if they are wearing a ring or not. A person should not have to wear a ring to say he or she is committed to someone.
