The 2014 Shippensburg University softball team will host West Chester University in its annual Breast Cancer Awareness doubleheader on Saturday. The first game will start at 1 p.m. with the second game immediately following.
Not only will this series feature the top two teams in the PSAC, it will also be a celebration in honor and in memory of those who have battled or are battling breast cancer.
Donations will be accepted throughout both games with the proceeds benefiting local charities. A special custom pink bat signed by the Raiders will be given away, along with T-shirts and other items.
There will be a ceremonial first pitch from Shippensburg breast cancer survivor, Julie Barrick.
Barrick is a second grade teacher in the Shippensburg Area School District. After being diagnosed with breast cancer in January 2005, she underwent several different procedures and is currently cancer free.
The Raiders are 24–8 on the year with a conference record of 10–6. The Golden Rams have a record of 28–13 and a conference record of 15–5.
The series will be the second time the two teams have squared off against each other,with WCU taking the first two games.
