College Search Engine Offering Marketing Internships

In November of 2008, www.OneRiot.com was established as a new type of search engine, developed specifically for college-aged Web surfers.

Now, OneRiot is offering paid internships to college students throughout the country in the field marketing spectrum.

OneRiot is self-described as “a social search engine that finds the pulse of the Web.”

Like any search engine,  users can conduct a Web or video search by typing in a word or phrase about which they are interested in finding more information.

However, OneRiot ranks its search results by popularity stemming from its current users’ history and the search results they are most interested in viewing.

According to OneRiot, they currently have over two million users determining the pulse of their Web site.

A user can download one of OneRiot’s applications that will allow the site to see what types of Web sites the user is visiting in order to determine what sites are popular.

Courtney Walsh, director of Public Relations for OneRiot, explains that the search engine finds the “pulse” of the internet, providing the hottest gossip, videos, and news as its search results.

“Other search engines often wind up with Wikipedia-style info as the top-ranked search results, which is great, useful information, but not necessarily the most real-time info available on that subject,” Walsh said. “OneRiot finds results based on what real people are reading, watching and even twittering on the web. OneRiot is not looking to be a replacement for Google, rather a search engine that offers a different, more social, experience.”
According to Walsh, OneRiot also sets out to target college aged web surfers.

“OneRiot is the perfect search engine for college students,” Walsh said.  “We find the Web sites, the videos and the news that are buzzing right now and that content is very useful and fun for students.”

Because OneRiot focuses on finding the latest pulse of the Internet, search results can vary day by day, depending on what is hot and what is not, according to OneRiot.com.

OneRiot features many applications to add to your browser, including Facebook and MySpace applications.  Some of the more interesting features include a toolbar for college campuses.

A school can register with OneRiot and have everything a student would need on one toolbar.

Campus toolbars can include student e-mail, Blackboard, local news, nightlife guides and club information, all in one easily accessible place for students.

OneRiot also has a “PulseChecker” application that measures the popularity of the Web sites users visit.  The PulseChecker can show the popularity of a Web site and also the average time spent visiting the page.

According to Walsh, the OneRiot team is looking for many college interns in the position of field marketing.

“OneRiot has a huge network of college student interns across the United States and is looking to build a team of hard core field marketing interns to spread the word about OneRiot.com,” Walsh said.

Interns would lead promotional campaigns and coordinate events to create online buzz, among many other things.
